What is WFencing?
WFencing is a collaborative 501(c)(3) organization of coaches and professionals, working to advance the sport of fencing by increasing diversity, building equity between women and men, and unifying our community.
Why and how was WFencing started?
In the summer of 2019, Vinnie Bradford led a seminar for women in coaching. In discussions about barriers and solutions, participants decided to create a report to track American women’s progression in coaching and other leadership roles. In parallel, this energy and desire to make our community more equitable grew and turned into WFencing as we know it today.
What does WFencing do?
WFencing is here to support and improve our fencing community. For club owners, we’re starting a COVID-19 relief fund. For coaches, we’ve led a series of Zoom support and discussion groups. For referees and other officials, we’ve published a comprehensive report on representation. Head on over to our Programs page to see what we’re up to lately – we’re just getting started!
Who can be a member of WFencing?
While WFencing was built for women fencing professionals, anyone can become a member! Parents, fencers, and anyone of any gender is welcome. It’s going to take a village to effect real change in our community, so we need all the help we can get. We thank you for your patience as we figure out how to structure forums and other platforms. Follow us on social media to stay in the loop or head to our Membership page to join us today.
